WARNING: Bloody gash in Emmy’s forehead pic below!
Emmy ran into the top of a metal tunnel on the playground at preschool. She did not duck low enough to clear the tunnel so she smacked her forehead on the top of the tunnel causing it to splint open.
I got the phone call around 12:30 in the afternoon. Fortunately, I had an assistant working in my classroom with me at the time so I was able to run over (literally…since Emmy’s preschool is on the same property as the school I teach at) to check on Emmy.
Once I arrived, she was pretty calm sitting on Mrs. Thomas’ lap, but she definitely needed a couple stitches. I had to head back to my classroom to grab my purse and make sure my class was covered for the rest of the day. Another teacher, Miss Zimmer, joined me to make the trip to urgent care with Emmy.
They got her back really quick! (Heck… she was already in the system from her broken arm two months ago!!) The numbing shot was awful! It took three of us to hold Emmy still while the doctor numbed her head. She loved the “squirt gun suringe” that the nurse used to clean out the cut. They even let her keep it! During the stitches, Emmy was still a little squirmy probably because she was hidden under a sterile cloth and couldn’t see anything. She was good as gold once the stitches were over!
As a parent who has now gone through the process of a broken bone and stitches…stitches is FAR worse!
After Emmy left preschool in the afternoon, many of her classmates made her cards to help her feel better.
Now we have to process of helping this scar heal!
