Emmy spent the first morning of spring break (Saturday, March 22) playing outside! She jumped on the trampoline, flew her kite, played basketball, and put on her roller skates… Things went downhill when she jumped from the grass to the sidewalk in her roller skates! Her skates flew out from under her and she landed with her right wrist behind her back. She started to whimper and moan (very unlike we have every heard her cry before). I was in the backyard and I came through the house because I thought I could hear her from the backyard. I saw Drew next to her on the sidewalk and he asked me to look at her wrist. I my first thought was, “This does not look right.” We took her in the house to put ice on her wrist. It was very close to her nap time, so she ended up falling asleep on my lap on the couch (cupping her wrist with her left hand.) She slept for a little over an hour. When she woke and leaned forward it caused her pain, so we decided to take her to urgent care. She took her stuffed dog with her to rest her sore arm on in the car. After checking in, we were called back within 10 minutes. I went back to x-ray with Emmy and they took 3 x-rays. The tech came back in and asked Emmy if she wanted to see her pictures. Of course, Emmy was excited to see her pictures. The tech looked at me and said, “I am not going to say the “B” word yet, but it is clearly…(blank)”. Crap. Emmy and I look at the x-rays. She thinks they are the ugliest pictures ever! and I can clearly see the break of her radius. We head back to the room where Drew and Keelin are waiting and I tell them the bad news. so Emmy is the only one in the dark about the news of her arm. They had to put her in a splint since it was the weekend and we were to bring her back to see the orthopedic doctor on Monday morning. So off we went back home with a dose of children’s Motrin and a quick stop at Walgreens to get some more.
Doesn’t it look like a tough life? Ipad movies and comfortable pillows! She even decorated the wrap with stickers!
Monday morning we were back to see the orthopedic doctor and Emmy picked out a bright pink cast! She completely broke her radius (which was clear to see in the x-ray) but she had another fracture in her ulna. Emmy has another appointment in a week to make sure everything is healing correctly. We stopped to let her pick out a new toy for being so brave and then we took her to go camping with mamaw and papaw. Through all of this, she was not upset about her broken arm or having a cast… she was upset because she missed a day of camping!
Emmy was spoiled by many friends who stopped by to give her cards and gifts! She loved everything!
As you can see… this cast has not stopped our little monkey. She still goes and goes and has all her spunk!
